A New Paradigm in Education
What are we accomplishing?
The Center for Integral Education is creating a new paradigm in education for children! We started with a preschool we opened in 2002 (Rainbow Kids Integral Preschool, in San Diego), and now an elementary school, which we opened in 2006 (Integral Elementary School in the La Jolla/UTC area). Our Integral approach is innovative, holistic and individualized. Our mission is to inspire a true joy in learning, and to create lifelong learners. Our curriculum includes academics, arts, PE, values, communication skills, yoga, meditation, & more!
Integral Education is a philosophy and practice of education for the whole child - mind, body, heart and soul. The modern practice of education for utility or for productivity is not enough for the children of the 21st century. It ignores the highest and truest parts of their being. Too often it ignores the physical and emotional development of the child as well

At the Integral schools, our goal is to educate the whole child, and to meet the individual needs of each and every student. Our focus is on helping the children find joy and significance in the learning and discovery process. Rather than concentrating simply on exams and grades, we place the emphasis on how each student learns and develops as whole, and on making the journey a meaningful process. This student-centered learning environment is the Integral approach.
In addition to a solid program in standard academics, the curriculum also focuses on the arts (including music, drama, dance, and visual arts), values and character development, self-reflection, communication skills, leadership, and physical education, including yoga for children and our cutting edge "Awareness Through the Body" program. The end result of such a program that educates the whole person is a student who also has wisdom to support his or her knowledge.
Where are we going?
We see Integral Education as a significant educational alternative - in the likes of the Waldorf, Montessori, and Quaker models - which needs to be firmly planted in American soil. We aspire to create a K-12 school in San Diego that will serve as a model for other educators in other parts of the country and the world to emulate and implement for as many students of the 21st Century as possible. Our ultimate vision is to create replicable pre-K through grade 12 curriculums, along with teacher training programs, to support many school openings.
How do we get there?
One step at a time! Our vision is new and innovative, and it is needed for the children of today, but it takes time to create change. Only with the support of others both here and around the country, can this new paradigm of education take shape. We get there by first solidifying the school in San Diego, ensuring that its program is full and robust, and successful. Only then can we move forward with more schools.
Why is our goal so compelling?
The Center for Integral Education’s unique strength is our focus on the individual needs of each child, while bringing to the United States an established, yet precedent-setting approach to education. In a time when state budgets are tight, politics are overshadowing, and teachers are overwhelmed, the public schools are often providing children with an inferior education. CIE offers a refreshing alternative. The integral philosophy goes beyond any of the current public or private school charters and ensures all children reach their potential at their own pace. In addition, we foster a true joy in learning – mind, body, heart and soul
What are our next steps?
We must start with our school in San Diego, by building up its curriculum and putting it in a form that is replicable for other schools. We need to create the teacher training program. We need to market our school to help people learn about us. We need a scholarship fund, so that this program is available to everyone.
How can you help us?
Please take the time to learn about our innovative and cutting edge approach to education! There is so much to share - if you are at all inspired or intrigued by what we are doing, please visit our website – www.IntegralEducation.org, or email Carla@IntegralEducation.org, or call 858-450-4321. We need your support for our schools to flourish. We have a wonderful program, but we need to get the word out about us, and build our curriculum and training programs up, so that it is available to everyone. Your contribution will make a huge difference in the education and lives of children!
