The “Who I Am” Energy Cards can be utilized in numerous ways with children, families, schools and communities.
Schools/Teachers
For children that are of writing age, this is a great tool to use for journaling. Simply have a “classroom deck” and have each student choose a card each day when it is time to do journaling. If they are asked to write about their weekend, or a particular event or holiday, they can incorporate how this “quality” was present. If they choose “I Am Inspired,” for example, they may not know what that means. This is an opportunity (dependent upon age) for them to look it up in the dictionary and/or for the teacher to explain and give examples of what this is. It is done as a class, so that everyone is learning about who they are. Then the students write about how the quality they chose showed up in their experiences. Imagine writing about “I Am Powerful” on Monday, “I Am Confident” on Tuesday, “I Am Peaceful” on Wednesday, and so on. Very powerful!
For children who are not writing yet, they can choose a card and do art with it. Talk about what it says, what it means, and then have them draw the picture and do what they want with it. It is anchoring in what they already know about themselves, and giving it words.
Also, you can choose a card for the entire class for the day. If the card is “I am Joyful,” everyone practices being joyful. What does that look like, feel like, sound like? You can ask them to “notice” joyful on the playground or at lunch, etc. It is about awareness of who they are.
Families
I have received so many calls and emails sharing with me how much children love to pick a card before going to school. I usually suggest to families that each of them choose one card, share that with your family, and then off you go. At night, at the dinner table or bedtime, everyone gets to share what they noticed in their day, as it applies to their particular card. Was it easy to be that? Was it hard? Again, it’s about awareness. If your child goes to school looking for “I Am A Wise Soul” to show up for him/her, that is going to make an impact on their
day and their life! |
